The town of Lefkas
The island `s main town with modern marina, a large pedestrian shopping area with inviting taverns,
cafés and stores. At the week-end it attracts many locals as well as tourists.
Best shopping-facilities in several supermarkets as well as those small stores which still remain.
An interesting archaeological museum, a museum of ethnology and another of phonography,
as well as quite a number of churches, are always well worth a visit. Located directly by the bridge,
the once Franconian fortress of Agia Mavra watches over the approach to Lefkas.
To the south-west lies the lagoon, a a nature reserve with rare plants and animals.
Toward the open sea Lefkas is hemmed by 7 km of white sandy beach with windmill-taverns.
Due to steady winds this beach is a favoured spot for connoisseurs of surfing and kiting!
